NEW DESIGN SUBMITTED FOR EAST END FOOTBALL STADIUM; PLANS FOR COMPLETION PROGRESSING

Plans to complete the long-awaited East End Football Stadium in Greenland, Tortola, are moving forward, with a new design officially submitted for the multi-million-dollar project.

The update was shared by Avanell Morton, President of the BVI Football Association (BVIFA), during the association’s Media Day and Award Ceremony on Sunday, September 22.

Morton revealed that the East End Football Stadium project is currently at the tender stage, with prospective candidates having visited the British Virgin Islands in recent weeks to assess the site ahead of their tender submissions.

The previous design for the stadium featured a 2,500-seat multi-purpose facility, incorporating various recreational and sporting amenities. These included a six-lane, 400-meter grass track, netball and volleyball courts, the covering of ghuts on both sides of the stadium, fencing, a parking lot with space for 200 cars, and an access road connecting the parking lot to the stadium. While details of the new design have not yet been disclosed, the project is expected to retain its focus on creating a versatile and inclusive space for sports and recreation.

The development of the East End Football Stadium is a crucial step in the BVIFA’s efforts to enhance the local football scene. During the media day, Morton also shared plans to introduce several new leagues and tournaments for the upcoming season, with a focus on making football a more inclusive community sport across the territory.

Also in attendance at the media day event was Ryan Geluk, Managing Director of BDO, who expressed his organization’s continued commitment to supporting youth football in the territory.

BDO will remain the title sponsor of the schools’ football league for another year, an initiative that has been crucial in nurturing young talent in the BVI.
