RVIPF ISSUES RESPONSE REGARDING RECENT INCIDENT IN CANE GARDEN BAY

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) wishes to address the concerns raised regarding the response to an incident in Cane Garden Bay on the evening of Saturday, September 28, 2024.

At approximately 7:21 p.m. on said date, the RVIPF received a report of an altercation in front of a local business at Cane Garden Bay. Officers responded promptly and gathered information, learning that a verbal confrontation escalated into a physical altercation. The victim sustained a minor injury during the incident. It is important to clarify that the injury was not a stabbing, as initially reported. The individual left the scene to prevent further escalation.

The police swiftly arrested the alleged assailant, identified as Quadeem Callwood of Cane Garden Bay, on suspicion of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm. Mr. Callwood was later charged with ABH and being armed with an offensive weapon. He has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear at Magistrate’s Court on November 14, 2024.

Concerns regarding CBG police station

Additionally, the RVIPF sought to bring clarity to concerns regarding the Cane Garden Bay (CGB) Police Station. The agency said, “Two officers are stationed there for each weekday shift. On weekends, the community is covered by officers from the West End Police Station.”

The statement further stated that while there are times when the station itself may not be physically manned, officers remain actively deployed to ensure a visible and accessible presence. “They regularly engage with residents and visitors through community patrols to maintain safety and security within Cane Garden Bay, even when not stationed inside the building.”
