The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) joined the global aviation community in celebrating Air Traffic Controllers’ Day on October 20, recognizing the vital role these professionals play in ensuring the safety, security, and efficiency of air travel in the Virgin Islands.
In a special ceremony held on October 18, the Authority expressed its gratitude to the Air Traffic Controllers for their invaluable contributions to the aviation industry. Minister of Communications and Works, Hon. Kye Rymer, praised the Controllers for their dedication and professionalism in maintaining the safety of the airspace in the British Virgin Islands.
“Air Traffic Controllers are the guardians of our skies, and their work is nothing short of heroic,” said Minister Rymer. He added, “Their professionalism, precision, and calm under pressure allow travelers to safely reach their destinations. The Government of the Virgin Islands extends its deepest gratitude to you all.”
Chairman of the BVIAA Board, Mr. Theodore E. Burke, echoed these sentiments, describing Air Traffic Controllers as the “heartbeat of any airport operation” and lauding their ability to maintain order in high-pressure environments. He emphasized the critical role they play in ensuring that the territory’s airports remain safe and reliable.
Managing Director of the BVIAA, Mr. Kurt A. G. Menal, also highlighted the importance of recognizing Air Traffic Controllers’ contributions to the aviation sector. “It is your expertise, precision, and dedication that make safe air travel possible,” Menal said. “The entire aviation community relies on your skill, and today we say a heartfelt thank you for your commitment to excellence and safety.”
Director of People and Culture, Dawn Leonard, added her appreciation, recognizing the personal commitment each Air Traffic Controller brings to their role. “The dedication and resilience displayed by our Air Traffic Controllers are truly admirable,” she remarked, praising their calm and unwavering sense of responsibility in upholding the highest safety standards.
As part of the celebration, each Air Traffic Controller was presented with a special token of appreciation from the Authority, symbolizing their steadfast dedication to ensuring the safety of Virgin Islands airspace.
