The Government of the Virgin Islands is set to host the 67th Session of the Caribbean Meteorological Council (CMC67) from November 18 to 22.
This high-profile event will bring together regional ministers, permanent secretaries, and directors responsible for meteorology from across the Caribbean, with discussions focused on strengthening climate and weather response capabilities amid the growing impacts of climate change.
Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye Rymer, highlighted the importance of the gathering, stating, “The Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO) collaborates with various weather and climate-sensitive sectors, including aviation, disaster management, agriculture, water resources, health, energy, tourism, and finance. As we witness the impacts of climate change in our region, it is crucial to engage in these discussions as these effects are not a distant concern; they are affecting us now.”
Key discussions will center on enhancing CMO Member States’ ability to provide authoritative, accessible information and ensure a sustainable observation network to support essential weather and climate services. CMC67 will also focus on preparing the Caribbean to address emerging climate threats and maintain resilience in critical sectors.
The event’s opening ceremony will be streamed live on the Government of the Virgin Islands Facebook page and will be open to media coverage, while the main meetings will be closed sessions. T
