DOUGHTY MEETS WITH LOCAL LEADERS TO ASSESS REFORM EFFORTS FOLLOWING COI

The Right Honourable Stephen Doughty, the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Europe, North America, and Overseas Territories, is visiting the Virgin Islands from November 4 to 6, 2024. Doughty’s visit focuses on assessing the territory’s progress in implementing governance reforms and financial transparency measures in response to the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) recommendations.

During his visit, Doughty will hold discussions with key government leaders, including Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley and Leader of the Opposition Ronnie Skelton, as well as other senior officials, public representatives, and community stakeholders. The Minister’s itinerary also includes a meeting with Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool to discuss security issues and the status of the ongoing implementation which followed the law enforcement review.

This is an effort to evaluate the Virgin Islands’ efforts to address the 48 recommendations outlined by the CoI.
