Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town installed the first Interact Club at the Claudia Creque Educational Center earlier today on Friday November 8th, 2024. In addition, new members were also installed in the EarlyAct Club on Anegada. The club in an official release said, “This is a proud moment at Claudia Creque Educational Center and their involvement will be seen through the various activities, leadership roles and initiatives by the students.”
Rotary President Faye Smith Penn congratulated and addressed the newly installed Interact Club and the Earlyact members to create magical experiences through the environment, literacy and peace and encouraged them to truly “make an impact in their school, Anegada, British Virgin Islands, worldwide and create a lasting change in their communities and in themselves”. Under Rotary’s motto, “service above self”, Rotary Club is committed to spread the message and movement of service.
Assistant Governor Rosemarie Flax enlightened the students about the story behind this years’ theme “the Magic of Rotary”, which was birth from the experience of a citizen in a disenfranchised area who received clean water from a murky water source for the first time. Through such an experience and other initiatives, Flax indicated that the newly installed club can improve their society and make Anegada and their school better as they become leaders of change and foster a spirit of giving, and a spirit of excellence.
Dr. Natalie Chatoo Principal of the Claudia Creque Educational Center addressed the newly installed Interact members and referred to the ceremony as an “important milestone and meaningful commitment” and informed them that they are “joining a tradition of excellence”. As Dr. Chatoo spoke to the students, she highlighted that they are “stepping into a role of responsibility and purpose and an opportunity to grow into compassionate leaders and thoughtful citizen. She thanked the Rotary Club for their “support, mentorship and dedication to fostering leadership in young people”.
Present at the ceremony was also Hon. Vincent Wheatley, 9th District Representative. Rotary Club Sunrise say they are committed to continuously supporting the youths of the Virgin Islands as they strive to make an impact in our society.
