MINISTRY MOVES FORWARD WITH VITAL ROAD WORKS; CAUSES SERIOUS TRAFFIC CONGESTION

Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer has reassured the public that his ministry is moving forward with vital road works to enhance the Virgin Islands road infrastructure. 

Honourable Rymer said that there are several forthcoming road works and closures throughout the Territory aimed at ensuring the safety and efficiency of the Territory’s roadways, “Although we planned to start these works weeks ago, we faced several delays due to weather conditions and flooding,” Honourable Rymer said. He added, “We greatly appreciate your cooperation and patience as we strive to improve our infrastructure.”  

Many of the road works have begun already causing sever traffic congestions all across the territory. Residents have taken to social media complaining of hour long delays in commuting from the Eastern End of the Islands as well as the Western End of the island. Scheduled road works as follows:

  1. Road Closure – Paraquita Bay to Hodges Creek Road Project
  2. Road Closure – Lower Windy Hill Retaining Wall Project
  3. Road Closure Update – Ridge Road Works
  4. Upcoming Road Works – East End Community Centre
  5. Ongoing Road Works – Sea Cow’s Bay Area

Partial lane closures and diversions will occur in the vicinity of Boy’s Gas Station, Sea Cow’s Bay, for concrete works until November 25th, 2024.

Additionally, road works will commence on November 19 in the vicinity of Roy Smith, Sea Cow’s Bay, lasting until November 26, and on November 20 near Sea Cow’s Bay Community Center until November 27. Manchester Area Road Works are also scheduled.

Director of the BVI Public Works department Mr. Jeremy Hodge in an invited comment asked residents to exercise patience as the road works commenced and stated that some comfort would be seen by Christmas.
