Disney Cruise Line’s new ship, the Disney Treasure, marked a special milestone arriving to the Cyril B Romney Tortola Pier Park for the first time on November 27th, 2024 ahead of its maiden voyage on December 21st, 2024.
As part of a longstanding global maritime tradition for all vessels on their first call to a new port, Disney Cruise Line invited government and port officials onboard the new ship for a plaque and key exchange. The guests were greeted by Captain Minnie Mouse and explored the new adventure-infused ship.
To celebrate the launch of the Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line is introducing Treasure Tomorrow, a new program that expands Disney’s commitment to creating lasting, positive impacts in the port communities it calls home in Florida and throughout the Caribbean. During the Disney Treasure’s inaugural season, Treasure Tomorrow will fund and support career exploration programs for students in each port the Disney Treasure visits.
“As Disney Cruise Line grows and more ships join our fleet, we are excited that the Disney Treasure will regularly call on Tortola,” said Q Jones, senior manager, corporate social responsibility, Disney Cruise Line. “Along with contributing to the local economy through tourism, we are committed to strengthening the community and supporting youth programs that inspire the next generation, helping all students ‘Treasure Tomorrow.’”
Through Treasure Tomorrow, Disney Cruise Line is collaborating with the Youth Empowerment Project and the Learning, Earning, and Achieving Dreams (LEAD) program in Tortola, which introduces high school students to careers and leadership roles within the hospitality industry.
“With the right tools, our young people can lead the future of hospitality and tourism with confidence and professionalism,” said Chef T. Michael Bogans, program manager, Youth Empowerment Project. “This support from Disney Cruise Line will build upon the foundation of our program – for a legacy of leadership, empowerment and opportunity – to ensure students in the BVI are prepared for the evolving global tourism market.”
Disney Cruise Line’s investment in the communities where the Disney Treasure will visit spans from Florida to the Caribbean. In Falmouth, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Grand Cayman and Abaco, near where Disney Castaway Cay is located, Disney Cruise Line is sponsoring Junior Achievement programs that empower and inspire the next generation of storytellers and innovators. And in St. Thomas, Disney Cruise Line is working with the School Kids in the Park (SKIP) program to help students learn about conservation, coral reefs, native plants and sea turtles.
