CIBC Caribbean has announced the appointment of Fabian Devonish as Country Head for the British Virgin Islands (BVI), effective December 1, 2024.
In his new role, Devonish will lead the bank’s operations in the territory under the Cayman Operating Company. He brings nearly 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 24 years with CIBC Caribbean, during which he held leadership roles across Barbados, the Cayman Islands, and the BVI.
In a media release, the bank praised Devonish as the driving force behind its success in the region and credited the Barbadian national for his instrumental role in securing the historic $100 million loan facility for the Government of the Virgin Islands to support critical infrastructure development. He has also earned a stellar reputation for his leadership in personal and business banking, further solidifying CIBC’s standing in the local financial landscape.
In addition to his professional achievements, Devonish’s passion for advocacy in community development was also highlighted, which included his leadership in philanthropic initiatives such as the annual Walk for the Cure, which has grown in participation under his guidance, along with the introduction of events like Hunt for the Cure.
As Country Head, Devonish aims to continue expanding CIBC’s presence in the BVI, focusing on delivering exceptional financial services and innovative solutions tailored to the needs of the community.
Mark McIntyre, Managing Director of the Cayman Operating Company, expressed confidence in Devonish’s ability to drive the bank’s future success.
“His unparalleled expertise, leadership, and dedication to both the bank and the community will be instrumental in continuing our commitment to excellence in service and social responsibility in the BVI,” McIntyre said.
