Over the weekend, Olympian and World Athletics Under 20 Champion Adaejah Hodge honoured veteran sports journalist Dean “The Sportsman” Greenaway for his unwavering support and coverage of her track and field career, which began when she was just five years old.
In a heartwarming surprise, Hodge visited Greenaway at his home, presenting him with a plaque and a custom shirt as a token of gratitude for his dedication over the years. Greenaway, a former Olympian himself, was moved by the gesture, referring to Hodge affectionately as “Speedy Gonzales.”
In typical Dean Greenaway fashion, he encouraged Hodge to reflect on her track and field journey, prompting her to express appreciation for the people who contributed to her success. Hodge spoke highly of those who have supported her along the way, acknowledging their impact on her achievements.
Greenaway’s own remarkable athletic career includes representing the British Virgin Islands (BVI) at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, marking a milestone for the territory.
He previously held national records in the 200-metre and 400-metre, with times of 21.23 and 46.04 seconds, respectively.
