Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley, unveiled plans for the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) to implement climate-resilient measures, including burying electricity cables underground.
The announcement came during BVIEC’s inaugural Career Expo on November 30.
Premier Wheatley highlighted the corporation’s dedication to innovation, expressing gratitude for its consistent efforts. He noted the underground cabling project as a critical step towards enhancing the territory’s infrastructure.
The Premier also discussed BVIEC’s Solar Technology Energy Programme, introduced by Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Kye Rymer. The programme aims to reduce residential electricity bills by up to 50 percent through solar energy.
Acknowledging various contributors to renewable energy advancement, Premier Wheatley emphasized the territory’s commitment to sustainability and applauded ongoing initiatives in green energy development.
