Residents grappling with long-outstanding water bills may soon find relief under a newly introduced policy by the Ministry of Communications and Works.
This initiative, announced by Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Kye Rymer, aims to address persistent concerns from residents burdened by long-outstanding high water bills—often attributed to undetected water leaks and other systemic issues.
During a recent sitting of the House of Assembly, Rymer emphasized the government’s commitment to alleviating the challenges faced by residents while addressing water woes across the territory.
The minister reaffirmed his administration’s intent to leverage legislative tools to address the water supply and billing issues comprehensively.
Opposition legislator Hon. Myron Walwyn also weighed in, acknowledging the structural challenges faced by the Water and Sewerage Department. According to Walwyn, the department lacks adequate resources to tackle the water supply problems effectively, leaving many residents without access to basic water infrastructure.
Walwyn further criticized the government’s insufficient allocation for water infrastructure improvements, urging for increased investment to ensure reliable access for all residents.
The new policy marks a significant step toward addressing the grievances of residents struggling with water access and financial burdens. While specifics of the implementation timeline remain unclear, both government and opposition voices agree on the urgency of resolving the territory’s water challenges.
Residents now await further updates on the rollout of this policy and the accompanying legislative measures.
