ECSC TO OPEN NEW LAW YEAR WITH COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT FOCUS 

The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court will officially commence its New Law Year on January 10, 2025, with a ceremonial opening under the theme “Accessibility and Awareness – The ECSC Bridging the Gap Through Community Engagement.”

This annual event highlights the court’s ongoing commitment to fostering closer ties with communities across its nine jurisdictions.

The ceremonial opening and first scheduled sitting of the Court of Appeal for 2025 will take place in Saint Lucia, showcasing the ECSC’s dedication to accessibility and awareness. According to a statement from the organization, the theme reflects its broader mission to educate the public on the judicial process and the court’s pivotal role in society.

Chief Registrar of the ECSC, Mrs. Michelle John-Theobalds, spoke to 284 Media about the extensive schedule of activities being planned across the nine countries and territories within the ECSC’s jurisdiction.

In the Virgin Islands, the day’s events will include a church service at the Road Town Methodist Church, aligning with similar observances across the region.

Mrs. John-Theobalds also highlighted the tremendous effort involved in organizing the ceremonial opening, ensuring that each jurisdiction is well-represented and the events run seamlessly.

The Chief Registrar emphasized the ECSC’s use of technology to further its goal of community engagement. From live-streamed proceedings to educational campaigns, the ECSC continues to leverage digital tools to enhance public understanding of the court’s functions.
