PREMIER SAYS TOURISM SUMMIT TO CHART NEW COURSE FOR BVI

The British Virgin Islands will host its first-ever Tourism Summit next week at the newly reopened Peter Island Resort, marking what Premier Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley describes as a strategic move to elevate the territory’s tourism sector.

The event will feature keynote addresses from various industry professionals representing local and regional agencies.

Premier Wheatley revealed plans to introduce new legislation in 2025 to enhance the territory’s sailing tourism, including updates to the Commercial Recreational Vessel Licensing Act, which has been unchanged since 1992.

The premier emphasized the summit’s role in developing a comprehensive tourism vision, focusing on sustainability and balancing visitor volume with environmental preservation.

The Ministry of Tourism, established under the current administration, organized the summit as its first major initiative to coordinate government activities within the tourism sector.

Industry discussions will address topics such as government support for tourism, product diversification, and maintaining the territory’s premium destination status while pursuing growth opportunities.

The summit has reached capacity, though proceedings will be available via live stream for industry stakeholders unable to attend in person.
