The British Virgin Islands (BVI) experienced a 12 percent increase in crime in 2024 compared to the previous year, largely due to the activities of the notorious “Money Boys Gang.”
This is according to the Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool who made the announcement on Wednesday during a press conference at Police Headquarters.
She said the gang has been linked to a series of burglaries, robberies, and vehicular thefts that troubled communities across the territory throughout the year. However, Acting Commissioner Vanterpool emphasized that police efforts have yielded significant results in combating these crimes.
Vanterpool acknowledged the difficulties faced by law enforcement last year, describing it as “a difficult period” for the territory. However, she commended the hard work of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in addressing organized crime while maintaining public safety.
She also highlighted the success of their efforts in ensuring a “safe, enjoyable, and largely crime-free” festive season, expressing her gratitude for the sacrifices made by her team.
As the crackdown on organized crime continues, the Acting Commissioner reaffirmed the RVIPF’s commitment to ensuring public safety and urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant.
With the police force strengthening its resolve, the focus remains on fostering safer communities in the British Virgin Islands while holding criminals accountable.
