GOV’T UNDER FIRE OVER ANEGADA PROMISES

Residents of Anegada continue to wait for land titles promised over a year ago, while development by non-residents progresses on the island, Territorial At Large Representative Lorna Smith said during a recent press conference.

The delay contradicts Premier Natalio Wheatley’s previous pledge to provide deeds to Anegadians, a move he said would dramatically impact their ability to develop homes and businesses.

Beyond the land title delays, Smith revealed that members of the Anegada Lands Commission remain unpaid despite approved supplementary provisions for their work.

She also noted that Anegada residents were largely excluded from micro and small business grant opportunities.

The situation reflects ongoing challenges for Anegada, which has historically faced infrastructure and resource allocation issues compared to other parts of the territory. Premier Wheatley previously pledged increased engagement with residents following concerns about infrastructure decisions during last year’s Lobster Fest weekend. Smith called on the government to address these issues promptly, emphasizing their importance to Anegada’s economic and social development within the broader British Virgin Islands community.
