NEW WORK PERMIT EXEMPTIONS UNDER MINISTER’S DISCRETION STILL ON HOLD

The Ministry of Financial Services, Labour, and Trade is reminding residents of the temporary suspension of new applications for work permit exemptions under the Minister’s Discretion category.

The ministry originally issued a notice on April 11, 2024, of the immediate suspension of the policy and noted that it was seeking to streamline processes and enhance transparency in determining eligibility for these exemptions.

While new applications are paused, the ministry confirmed it will continue to accept renewal applications under the Minister’s Discretion category.

The ministry said it is actively working to establish comprehensive guidelines for eligibility under this category, aiming to create a fair and transparent process for all applicants moving forward.

Applicants seeking work permit exemptions under other categories may continue to apply, including:

  • By Marriage: For individuals married to BVIslanders or Belongers and living with their spouse in the territory.
  • By Education: For individuals who have attended significant schooling within the territory.

The ministry emphasized that any new applications submitted before or after April 11, 2024, under the Minister’s Discretion category, will be placed on hold until further notice.

Applicants are reminded to ensure their status remains compliant with the Department of Immigration. Bottom of Form
