The Government of the Virgin Islands has confirmed that BVI citizens travelling on British Overseas Territories (BOTC) passports do not require visas to enter Guyana.
This clarification follows recent concerns after a BVI national was reportedly denied entry and asked to obtain a visa upon arrival.
According to a statement from the Premier’s Office, officials from Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs have verified that BVI nationals are eligible for visa-free entry and that the country’s official website will soon be updated to reflect this policy.
The statement further highlighted the BVI’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Guyana, referencing a Cabinet decision on September 24, 2024, to remove visa restrictions for Guyanese nationals travelling to the Virgin Islands. The move was part of the territory’s strategy to facilitate travel for leisure and business between the two jurisdictions.
The confirmation provides much-needed clarity following media inquiries about entry requirements for BVI travellers. The government has encouraged travellers to stay informed and check with relevant authorities ahead of travel while Guyana updates its official immigration guidelines.
