RVIPF INVESTIGATES GREENLAND SHOOTING INCIDENT – BVIFA ISSUES STATEMENT

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is actively investigating a shooting incident that took place on the public road near Greenland Field, East End, Tortola on Sunday, February 9, 2025, following a football match.

According to police reports, three masked individuals approached a group of males shortly after 10:00 p.m. Upon seeing what appeared to be a firearm, one of the victims attempted to flee, prompting the suspects to fire shots in his direction.

One individual sustained minor injuries while escaping, but no other injuries have been reported. The RVIPF has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and more details will be shared as they become available.

BVIFA Condemns Violence, Clarifies Location of Incident

In response to the incident, the British Virgin Islands Football Association (BVIFA) issued a statement expressing deep concern while clarifying that the shooting did not take place on the football field itself, but rather on the public road after the match had ended.

The BVIFA noted that by the time of the incident, the teams had already left, and the stadium lights had been turned off, though some spectators were still present in the area.

The association strongly condemned all forms of violence and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that football remains a safe and positive environment for players, officials, and spectators. The BVIFA also pledged to fully cooperate with law enforcement and work to strengthen security measures at events.

Despite the unsettling occurrence, regular training sessions are set to continue as scheduled.

The RVIPF encourages anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward and confidentially contact Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS) or the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

Authorities continue to investigate, and further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
