A contract valued at $3,785,274.55 was officially awarded to Connect Enterprises Limited for work on Phase 2 of the Cane Garden Bay Sewerage Network Project.
Phase two of the project entails the installation of approximately 4500 linear feet of gravity main sewer lines and pumping mains. The works also include the construction of a new pump station directly adjacent to the new wastewater treatment plant along with three smaller pump stations and two lift stations.
Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley stated, “This project is a critical investment in the infrastructure of Cane Garden Bay. It will significantly improve sanitation and environmental conditions, paving the way for sustainable development and economic growth in the area.”
Minister for Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer said the contract signing marked the commencement of a long-awaited infrastructure upgrade for the area. Honourable Rymer said, “The implementation of the sewer network is a testament to the commitment of the ministry and recognising its fit in the puzzle to enhance public health and protecting our environment. The project will bring long-term benefits to the community.”
Also present at the contract signing was the Representative for the Second Electorial District, Honourable Melvin Turnbull who said he was elated that this critical phase of the project was about to commence. He also expressed gratitude to the Government on behalf of the people of Cane Garden Bay.
Meanwhile, Connect Enterprises Limited Representative Ms. Chastity George said her company is honored to be a part of this important initiative and is committed to delivering a high-quality sewer network that meets the needs of Cane Garden Bay. The Virgin Islands based company said that they are looking forward to working with the government and the community to bring this project to fruition.
It is expected that over forty-two manholes will be installed to convey the sewage. The works would also conclude with the restoration of the road and adjacent sidewalks damaged during the course of the project. The aim is to establish a modern and efficient sewer network in Cane Garden Bay, addressing environmental concerns and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors.
