D.R. TRADE MISSION TO AUGMENT IMPLEMENTING OF BASKET OF GOODS

As the BVI continues to grapple with the rising costs of food, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley believes that a pathway to the Basket of Goods would be greatly assisted by his upcoming trip to the Dominican Republic.

The Basket of Goods has been a much talked about issue with little or no implementation so far.

During a press conference last week, Premier Wheatley stated that the team from the Ministry of Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation have been engaged in discussions with the local supermarket industry as it pertains to the Basket Goods.

However, he said the trip to the Dominican Republic is critical to its implementation.

Meanwhile Deputy Premier and Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change Hon. Julian Fraser recently attended the CARICOM Heads of Government Summit in Barbados where the issue of Food Security was discussed.

One of the questions put to Minister Fraser at the press conference with the premier was the possibility of the BVI getting more goods from CARICOM countries instead of depending on most imports from the United States.
