THE BVI FILM COMMISSION LAUNCHES FUTURE FILMMAKERS ACADEMY

The British Virgin Islands Film Commission say they are excited to announce the launch of the Future Filmmakers Academy, an immersive programme designed to introduce young creatives to the fundamentals of filmmaking. The academy will take place from 31st March to 4th April 2025, providing hands-on training in various aspects of the film industry.

The Future Filmmakers Academy is a week-long initiative aimed at aspiring filmmakers, ages 7 to 12, who are eager to explore the world of storytelling, directing, animation, and production. The programme will be facilitated by industry professionals, namely; Dame Peters, who will teach the foundations of filmmaking, and Naudia Turnbull, who will lead the animation course. Together, they will guide students through an engaging curriculum that covers essential filmmaking techniques and principles.

“This academy is an incredible opportunity for young creatives in the BVI to gain real-world filmmaking experience,” said BVI Film Commissioner, Natalie Hodge. “By equipping our youth with the knowledge and resources to explore careers in the film industry, we are fostering the next generation of storytellers and industry professionals.”

Participants will attend sessions at Seagrape Studios at Skelton Baylot in Fish Bay and H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in Paraquita Bay on select dates, where they will gain hands-on experience with essential filmmaking tools and software.

Sessions will run daily from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Registration for the Future Filmmakers Academy is now open as of 4th March, and space is limited. Parents and guardians are encouraged to sign up their children as soon as possible to secure a spot.
