Akeem Hopkinson was on March 10th, 2025 found guilty of the April 2021 murder of Mrs. Catherine Pickering on February 25th, 2025. Catherine Pickering, 67, was fatally shot in the head and chest with an AK-47 assault rifle in her Paraquita Bay home on April 18th, 2021.
Hopkinson was sentenced in the High Court to 32 years in prison by High Court Judge Rajiv Persaud and convicted on all four charges: murder, robbery, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and possession of a prohibited firearm. His sentences will run simultaneously.
The brutal murder occurred during the robbery of Ms. Maricel Pickering, daughter of Catherine Pickering. A total of eight persons were charged with various offences as a result of the incident that night.
Shemar Robinson who had previously pleaded guilty to Robbery, was sentenced to five years and nine months, including time already served, with the possibility of parole after three years, provided he undergoes counseling.
