BVI OPPOSITION ATTENDING PAC WORKSHOP IN JERSEY

Members of the opposition are familiarising themselves with the operations and functioning of Public Accounts Committees.

They are attending the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association United Kingdom (CPA UK) specialised workshop for Public Accounts Committees in Jersey.

This workshop is being held for a three-day period and concludes today and it is designed to foster learning and collaboration between members of the BVI PAC and their counterparts in Jersey.

During this workshop, they are engaging in various activities aimed at enhancing their understanding of PAC operations.

These include observing preparatory meetings for public hearings, attending live public hearings, and participating in debriefing sessions afterward.

Additionally, the workshop features sessions on critical topics such as the Jersey PAC’s Code of Practice and Legislative Framework, the functions of the Jersey Audit Office, and the staffing support structure.

The BVI delegation includes Ronnie Skelton (Chairman), Stacy Mather, Marlon Penn, and Myron Walwyn as members, accompanied by Clerk Bethsaida Smith-Hanley, and Secretary to the PAC.

The BVI PAC says it recognises the importance of this opportunity and anticipates that the insights gained will enhance its ability to scrutinise public funds effectively.
