Akim Stevens CHARGED AS STRING oF BURGLARY INVESTIGATIONS CONTINUE

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) say they are actively investigating a series of burglaries and attempted burglaries reported in the Diamond Estate, Spooners Estate, and Anderson Estate areas.

One individual, Akim Stevens, of no fixed address, has been arrested and formally charged with Burglary and Attempted Burglary in connection with these incidents. His arrest followed the circulation of video footage on social media, shared by homeowners in the affected communities.

Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool states: “We are aware of the videos being circulated showing individuals attempting to enter homes, and we understand the real fear and anxiety this has caused for residents in the affected communities. Let me assure the public that we are taking these incidents seriously, and this arrest is a direct result of the swift action of the police and the cooperation of the BVI public. We will continue to follow all leads and work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice. The safety and peace of mind of our communities remain our highest priority.”

The RVIPF also wishes to address false claims circulating in a separate video, which alleged that Stevens had escaped police custody and was later re-captured. The RVIPF said it wants the public to know that this claim is untrue. As a person of interest, Stevens was observed by officers, pursued, and arrested without incident. He remains in police custody pending his appearance before the Magistrate’s Court.

The RVIPF continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity by contacting the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 or from overseas at (284) 800-8477.
