The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission recently sponsored the highly anticipated Oracle San Francisco Sail Grand Prix (SailGP), which took place from 22nd to 23rd March 2025, at the prestigious Golden Gate Yacht Club.
This partnership underscored the BVI’s reputation as the “Undisputed Sailing Capital of the Caribbean” and one of the world’s preeminent sailing destinations and highlighted its commitment to supporting world-class sailing events.
The Oracle San Francisco Sail Grand Prix, renowned for its cutting-edge technology and thrilling racing, provided an ideal platform for the BVI to showcase its unparalleled sailing conditions and vibrant maritime culture. The event attracted a global audience of sailing enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and luxury travelers, all of whom had the opportunity to discover the magic of the BVI.
“The British Virgin Islands is synonymous with sailing excellence,” said Clive McCoy, British Virgin Islands Director of Tourism. “Our sponsorship of the Oracle San Francisco Sail Grand Prix was a natural fit, allowing us to connect with a passionate audience and demonstrate why the BVI remains the world’s leading sailing destination. With consistent trade winds, crystal-clear waters, and a vast network of sheltered islands, sprinkled along the renown Sir Francis Drake Channel, the BVI offers an unmatched sailing experience.”
The BVI’s prominence as a sailing paradise was further bolstered by its robust calendar of sailing regattas, including:
• The BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival: A week-long celebration of sailing that attracts competitors from around the globe.
• The Sweethearts of the Caribbean Regatta: A ladies-only regatta promoting women in sailing.
• 48th Annual Foxy’s Wooden Boat Regatta: A celebration of traditional boat building and sailing, showcasing the BVI’s rich maritime heritage.
• Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series Caribbean Championship: A competitive series that draws top sailors for high-level racing in the Caribbean.
• Numerous local and youth sailing events that promote the development of the sport. These events, combined with the BVI’s exceptional marine infrastructure and world-class marinas, make it a year-round destination for sailing enthusiasts of all levels.
At the San Francisco SailGP, the BVITBFC hosted a dedicated booth, offering attendees information about the destination. Visitors enjoyed live steel pan music and had opportunities to interact with BVI representatives who were available to answer questions about the destination’s sailing offerings, luxury accommodations, and vibrant culture.
“We invited everyone attending the San Francisco SailGP to visit our booth and discover why the British Virgin Islands is the ultimate sailing destination,” added Perla George, Business Development Director, North America, BVITBFC. “Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or simply looking for an unforgettable vacation, the BVI has something to offer everyone.”
