The BVI Electricity Corporation today announced the launch of a new, more transparent electricity bill that will be distributed to all customers starting in April 2025.
The new bill format, introduced during a press conference held at BVIEC’s Long Bush headquarters on Thursday, April 3, is designed to enhance customer understanding of how their electricity charges are calculated.
New columns have also been added to give greater insight into fuel-related charges. These include:
• Cost of Fuel per Gallon (Surcharge)
• BVIEC Fuel Subsidy per Gallon (Surcharge Subsidy)
• Customer Fuel Surcharge per Gallon (Net Surcharge)
“This move is a part of BVIEC’s commitment to increased transparency and accountability,” said Dr. Neil Smith, General Manager of BVIEC. “Customers deserve to know not only what they are paying for but also what BVIEC is doing to support them—especially in volatile energy markets. This new bill empowers our customers with knowledge.”
Chief Financial Officer Ms. Carmen Sully emphasized BVIEC’s historical and ongoing commitment to offsetting the cost of energy to the customer.
She said, “Each month, BVIEC contributes significantly toward the cost of fuel to help buffer customers from rising energy prices. By making this contribution visible on the bill, we are not only being more transparent—we’re also showing the value BVIEC delivers to every household and business in the Territory.”
From a systems standpoint, the bill’s redesign represents a major upgrade in how billing information is processed and displayed.
Mr. Hector Cruz, Business Systems Analyst, stated: “As we continue to innovate, we use opportunities like these to sensitize the public. In the near future you can expect to see more innovative solutions that drive the Corporation’s mission of being more customer centric.
The Corporation encourages all customers to review the new bill format once it is available and to reach out with any questions through BVIEC’s customer service channels.
This initiative is part of BVIEC’s broader push toward operational transparency, customer education, and continued public trust in the energy services provided across the Virgin Islands.
