St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands- According to reports made by the VI Consortium, The Virgin Islands Police Department announced over the weekend, that the department intercepted five semi-automatic handguns of various calibers and two semi-automatic assault rifles at the Cyril E. King Airport.
The police department did not disclose when exactly the seizure took place.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer, an individual, unnamed, attempted to bring the firearms into the territory. The individual did not disclose all the weapons which were in his possession. The V.I.P.D. Firearms Investigation Unit has confiscated the firearms and launched an investigation into the background of the transporter and the origin of the weapons.
The V.I.P.D uses this time to remind travelers to contact the island’s Firearms Unit before travelling with a main-land licensed firearm.
The Police Department also stated bringing unlicensed firearms into the territory will result in those firearms being confiscated and you may be prosecuted in accordance to the laws of the US Virgin Islands.
