Coming out of News source Guyana, the Director of Public Prosecutions Guyana has advised the Police to charge former GDF Chief of Staff Gary Best with causing death by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle while breath and alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit. The file was returned to the Police this morning after advice was sought from the Department of Public Prosecutions.
National cyclist Jude Bentley was killed on the spot on the morning of February 8th while training on the Rupert Craig Highway, in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy turn.
According to information received, Bentley came into contact with a black Land Cruiser, reportedly driven by Rear Admiral (Ret’d) and former Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defense Force, Gary Best. The incident occurred at approximately 05:00h while both men were heading east along the highway.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and ever since the tragedy, his family have been calling for justice in the matter.
The accused in question was also forced to suspend his campaigning for the APNU+AFC as he was one of their candidates for the upcoming election slated for March 2nd, 2020, which is pretty much 3 days away.
The retired Chief of Staff was initially arrested just after the early morning accident, but was granted station bail while the investigation was being conducted.
He could find himself in Court either later today or tomorrow.
