THREE GUYANA DEFENSE FORCE RANKS KILLED IN EXPLOSION

An explosion at the Arms Store Complex at the Camp Stephenson Base, Timehri in Guyana has claimed the lives of three Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ranks.

The incident, which occurred around 9 am on Thursday, also left another GDF rank injured.

The circumstances of the explosion are being investigated. However, a release issued by the GDF stated that “preliminary investigations have so far revealed that the soldiers were involved in the preparation of pyrotechnics for demolition when the incident occurred.”

Earlier this year, a soldier lost his life and several injured in a fireworks explosion while preparing to celebrate Guyana’s Jubilee Republic anniversary in February.

The deceased and injured ranks have not been identified.
