The country’s leading media mogul, Oliver F Clarke, has died at the age of 75.

The long-time Chairman and Managing Director of the Gleaner Company died on Saturday at his home in St Andrew, reportedly from cancer which he has battled for some time.

Clarke was also for a time, Chairman of the RJRGleaner Group, a position that he recently stepped down from.

For more than four decades Clarke has been centrally associated with the growth of the Gleaner Company to the point of being unquestionably the most dominant media entity in the country, with extended reach to the main Jamaican Diaspora communities. That position the entity has largely maintained, although a merger with the RJR Group some years ago came as a surprise nationally.

Clarke has also been widely involved in a number of other areas of business nationally, including banking, the book industry and real estate.

He is survived by his widow, Monica and daughter, Maria Alexander.
