PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname and Jamaica were among the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries to report COVID-19 related deaths within a 24-hour period on Friday June 25.
This is according to a news article published by CMC on the aforesaid date, which said that Trinidad and Tobago recorded 6 COVID-19 deaths during that day.
Trinidad’s Ministry of Health revealed in its latest bulletin that 11 men were among those who had succumbed to the virus and that all of them had comorbidities. As a result the death toll has pushed up to 791. In addition, there were 346 positive cases, moving the overall total to 31,775 with 7613 being active cases.
The ministry said that the new figures represent samples taken during the period June 21-24 and that there are 385 patients in hospitals, 331 in state sanctioned quarantine facilities and 6, 736 in home isolation.
Trinidad and Tobago is recording 23,371 recoveries from the virus.
GUYANA
In Guyana, the total positive cases of the novel coronavirus detected increased to 19674 following the detection of 109 new cases within the last 24 hours.
There are 17 persons in the ICU, 99 in institutional isolation, 1473 in home isolation, and one in institutional quarantine. The recoveries stand at 17,626 while the death toll has risen to 459.
The authorities said that the latest fatality is a 59-year-old man from Region Four.
SURINAME
Eight people have succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic in the past 24 hours in Suriname, pushing the death toll in the Dutch-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country to 490, including 188 this month.
The authorities said that the total number of positives in the country stands at 20,723 after 174 new cases were added in the past 24 hours from 472 tests.
The total number of people recovered from the virus increased by 212 to 15,943. There are now 221 people in hospitals and 38 patients in intensive care units. In addition, there are 2136 positive persons in isolation.
JAMAICA
Jamaica recorded an additional 68 coronavirus infections and two more deaths over the past 24 hours.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness said that the new positive cases pushed the total to 49,909, while there are 1051.
The new positive cases include 45 females and 23 males with ages ranging from one to 94 years.
The ministry also reported 134 new recoveries, which pushed the total recoveries to 29,456. There are 19,039 active cases on the island.
ST. LUCIA
The Ministry of Health and Wellness reported that there were 12 new cases of COVID-19 from a batch of 239 samples taken during the period June 21-23 in St. Lucia.
The ministry said it had also received news of the recovery of three individuals, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 74.
“All our active cases are doing well and none of them require treatment in the intensive care unit. The new positives bring the total number of cases diagnosed in the country to date to 5250,” the ministry added.
BARBADOS
In Barbados, two men and seven women are the island’s latest COVID-19 cases. They were identified out of 756 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory, on Thursday. There are now 25 persons in isolation.
Barbados has recorded 4,066 cases of the viral illness (1970 females and 2,096 males), and 47 deaths, since March 2020.
