The United States Virgin Islands (USVI) Government has made WNBA rising star Aliyah Boston an official tourism ambassador of the USVI.
The USVI’s Department of Tourism confirmed the momentous occasion in a recent media release and said it is a multi-year partnership.
Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte described the Indiana Fever rookie as a natural treasure, stating that it is not solely because of her athletic prowess, but for her unwavering pride in the USVI.
“[It] is a first for the Tourism Department as we continue to explore unique and non-traditional methods of marketing for our destination,” he said.
A new sign featuring Boston is set to be displayed at the Cyril E. King Airport as part of the partnership.
Following the initial announcement, Boston said she was elated to be bestowed with such an honour.
“I couldn’t be happier to be an official ambassador for my hometown. I’m very proud of where I’m from and it’s really special to be able to partner with the tourism board…We can let the world know that the islands are gorgeous, with beautiful and kind people, and filled with a cultural richness that makes them a destination for everyone,” Boston expressed.
Boston ended her college career with four Lisa Leslie awards, two All-American awards, 3 Naismith Player of the Year awards, and a number of other Player of the Year awards from other prestigious organizations.
Her college success led her to being the first ever female from the USVI to be drafted as the number 1 pick of a WNBA Draft.
After being grabbed by the Indiana Fever WNBA team, Boston created further history after becoming the first rookie to be selected as an All Star.
