Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley announced Saturday that Energy Minister Stuart Young will succeed him as Trinidad and Tobago’s next head of government, following a two-day parliamentary retreat in Tobago.
Rowley revealed during a news conference at the Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort that Young, who also serves as Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, received majority support from the People’s National Movement (PNM) parliamentary caucus.
The announcement comes just three days after Rowley disclosed his intention to step down as Prime Minister.
Young, who turns 50 next month, has served in various ministerial positions over the past decade. He expressed gratitude to his parliamentary colleagues on Facebook and thanked Rowley for his “continued and exemplary leadership in guiding through this historic process.”
