The two-time defending National Fast Pitch Softball League champions, Pirates, showcased their resilience and skill as they clinched a nail-biting victory in their first game of the Dominican Republic Independence Softball Tournament on Thursday, February 22.
Playing at the E. Walwyn Brewley Ballpark, the Pirates held on to win a closely contested match against Team Cano with a final score of 14-13.
In a thrilling display of competitive softball, the Pirates demonstrated why they are the reigning champions, navigating a tough battle against the foreign side Team Cano. The high-scoring affair kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final moments when the Pirates sealed their victory.
The earlier game of the tournament saw local team Mega Power facing a formidable opponent in Las raices de Consuelo, suffering a 10-0 defeat. The tournament, which runs until Sunday, February 25, promises more exciting matchups and fierce competition among the participating teams.
A noteworthy addition to the tournament is the BVI All-Stars women’s team, composed of key players from the reigning champion team that clinched victory in the regional Kings and Queens of the Virgin Islands Softball Tournament last July. The All-Stars are gearing up for their first game of the tournament, scheduled tonight at 9:00 p.m. against the Feds team from St. Croix.
Speaking ahead of the crucial matchup, team manager Shanika Forbes expressed confidence in the All-Stars’ ability to emerge victorious in the tournament.
Forbes outlined the team’s aspirations and listed the 17-member squad which is filled with lots of talent and experience.
