British Virgin Islander Adaejah Hodge left spectators in awe at the New Balance Indoor Nationals on Sunday, as she bid farewell to her high school indoor track career, ending the competition with two gold medals and one silver.
The day started on a high note for track and field sensation Adaejah Hodge of Montverde Academy in the 60-metre final.
Displaying her versatility, she clinched a second-place finish with a swift time of 7.22 seconds. The top spot in the 60-metre race went to Brianna Selby of Speed Evolutions Athletics Club, who set a new meet record and a personal best with a winning time of 7.19 seconds.
Here’s a look at that race.
Hodge returned with vengeance in her second event of the day, the 200-metre race, and delivered, successfully defending her 200-metre title in a remarkable 22.96 seconds.
Hodge’s electrifying run not only secured her victory but also distinguished her as the sole finalist from the two semi-final heats to break the elusive 23-second barrier.
Teammate Dasia Reed demonstrated the strength of Montverde Academy’s sprinting squad, securing a solid second place with a time of 23.67 seconds. Sade Gray of Run Fast Track Club claimed the third spot, clocking in at 23.82 seconds.
The crowning glory came as Hodge anchored the 4×400-metre race, running the lead-off leg with a split time of 55.84 seconds that propelled Montverde Academy to a gold-medal triumph and a new championship record of 3:38.18, shattering their previous record of 3:45.69, set in 2023.
The team’s talented athletes, including Michelle Smith from the US Virgin Islands, contributed significantly to the record-setting feat. Smith clocked 52.81 in the second leg, followed by Alivia Williams with 54.13 in the third leg, and Dasia Reed anchoring with 55.42.
