The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has achieved a historic milestone in junior squash as players Jakob Noblett, Daniel Henderson, and Delilah Pease secured spots in the finals of the Nagico and Interpath Junior Caribbean Squash Association Championships 2024.
This marks the first time the territory has fielded three finalists in the prestigious regional competition, surpassing the previous record of two finalists set in 2023.
Competing at the Tortola Sports Club on day two of the tournament, Jakob was the first to secure his place in the finals. He delivered an impressive straight-set victory over Barbados’ Ethan Cyrus in the Boys Under 13 division, with scores of 11-3, 11-5, 11-9. His performance set the tone for a successful day for the BVI team.
Next to advance was Delilah Pease, who dominated Varenya Singh of Jamaica in the Girls Under 11 division. Delilah’s emphatic 11-1, 11-2, 11-1 win not only secured her spot in the finals but also marked her second consecutive appearance in the championship match. She won a silver medal in the 2023 edition and is now poised for a shot at the gold.
The final BVI player to secure a finals berth was Daniel Henderson. Competing in the Boys Under 17 division, Daniel handed Bermuda’s Eli Carpol a solid 3-0 defeat with scores of 11-6, 11-9, 11-7. His victory completed a triumphant day for the BVI squad.
Looking ahead to the finals on Tuesday, Delilah Pease will face off against Gia Ghuran of Trinidad and Tobago at 10:00 a.m. Shortly after, at 10:30 a.m., Jakob Noblett will compete against Guyana’s Ethan Bulkan. The day’s competition for the BVI will culminate with Daniel Henderson challenging the number one seed, Jaydon Williams of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, at 1:00 p.m.
This historic achievement not only highlights the talent and dedication of the BVI’s young squash players but also marks a significant moment for the territory in regional sports.
