CAVALIERS CROWNED 2024 BVICA T20 CHAMPIONS

In a thrilling finale to the 2024 BVI Cricket Association (BVICA) T20 tournament, the Cavaliers emerged as champions after defeating the R.T.W Falcons by 20 runs on Sunday.

The gripping contest at the Greenland Cricket Ground in East End, Tortola, kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final over.

Electing to bat first, the Cavaliers set a formidable target, amassing a colossal 243 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs. The star of the show was Avishkar Sewkarran, who delivered a breathtaking performance. Sewkarran, who was named Player of the Match and Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, smashed 133 runs off just 63 deliveries. His explosive innings featured 12 fours and 11 sixes, setting a solid foundation for his team. He was well supported by Ronniel Jeffrey, who contributed a rapid 47 runs from 20 balls.

Despite the Cavaliers’ onslaught, Turby Xavier stood out for the Falcons with the ball, claiming three wickets for 43 runs from his 4 overs. Xavier’s efforts, however, were not enough to contain the Cavaliers’ batting prowess.

In their chase, the R.T.W Falcons put up a valiant fight. Austin McDowall was the beacon of hope for his team, unleashing a spectacular innings of 126 runs from 60 deliveries. His knock included 4 fours and an astounding 15 sixes, keeping the Falcons in contention throughout their innings. Unfortunately for the Falcons, McDowall’s heroics were in vain as they were bowled out for 223 runs in the final over.

Vishal Bharat was the standout bowler for the Cavaliers, capturing 4 wickets for 26 runs from his 4 overs. Bharat’s crucial breakthroughs ensured the Cavaliers maintained the upper hand and ultimately sealed their victory.

The tournament also saw several individual accolades awarded. Dhanpaul Chrisnanand was recognized for claiming the most wickets in the competition, while Richard Francis was honored as the Best Wicket Keeper. Giovan Hitnarine received the award for Best Fielder. Additionally, the Royal Knights secured third place in the tournament, rounding off a memorable season of cricket.

The Cavaliers’ triumph in the BVICA T20 tournament underscores their dominance over the years with this most recent title taking their overall tally of titles won to 23.
