VG UNITED TO FACE WOLUES FC IN HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FA CUP FINAL

The stage is set for a thrilling FA Cup final as Virgin Gorda United (VG United) and Wolues FC prepare to clash on Sunday, July 28.

Both teams secured their spots in the final with decisive semi-final victories, setting up an exciting showdown at the East End/Long Look football field.

VG United earned their place in the final by defeating One Love FC in a commanding 5-1 victory last weekend. The match began with an early lead for VG United, courtesy of Joel Mars, who found the net in the 33rd minute. However, One Love FC quickly responded with an equalizer from Johari Lacey just a minute later. Despite the quick setback, VG United regained their composure and dominated the rest of the half. Devante Samuel and T’Khoy Morton scored in quick succession in the 37th and 39th minutes, respectively, giving VG United a 3-1 advantage at halftime.

The second half saw VG United solidify their dominance with additional goals from Denvin Jones in the 60th minute and Qu’yl Billingy in the dying moments of the match, in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The team’s strong performance was attributed to their preparation and focus, as noted by VG United Manager Jermain Abrams.

“We were totally focused and well prepared by the Coaches Richie Morton and Glenn Bascombe,” Abrams said post-match. “They are a team full of experience and really good players, so it was no surprise we were out of sorts at the start in a physical game, but we battled through, drew first blood and despite conceding an equalizer, managed to see it through. The second half showed how good we can be at keeping possession… but the boys stuck together and never gave up.”

Meanwhile, Wolues FC also had an impressive semi-final run, defeating Panthers FC 4-0. Wolues took control of the game early, with Noel Maxwell scoring twice and Alexander Edwards adding a third goal before halftime. Marcus Robinson sealed the victory midway through the second half.

Wolues FC Manager Levi James praised his team’s execution and resilience. “The team responded really well to their instructions, as we sought to control the game with passing, switching play, and forward runs,” James explained. “We were able to neutralize their youth on the wings and sharp teeth in the attack with great defensive stability… it will be a real test against VG United and it should be a great spectacle for the fans.”

The final will kick off at 8:30 p.m., preceded by a third-place playoff between One Love FC and Panthers FC at 6:00 p.m.
