The Raymond “Mahassa” Mercer & Kathleen Fahie National Fast Pitch League championships kicked off with strong performances from Power Outage and defending champions Synergy, both securing victories in their respective divisions at the E. Walwyn Brewley Ball Park on Friday.
In the men’s championship series, Power Outage delivered a stunning upset against the reigning champions, Pirates, with a decisive 7-1 victory.
Jeremy “Chicken” Penn led the charge, smashing two home runs and contributing significantly to the team’s eight hits. Penn, alongside teammates Rafael Rabsatt and Eurys Robles, combined for six runs and three RBIs, effectively silencing the Pirates’ defence.
Starting pitcher Jorge Bernadino Rijo put in a commanding performance, allowing just one run and six hits over seven innings while striking out nine and walking three.
In the women’s championship, Synergy overpowered Pure Problems with a dominant 16-4 win. Despite Pure Problems taking an early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning, Synergy quickly turned the tables in the bottom half, scoring six runs to establish a 6-4 lead.
The team’s offensive prowess was showcased by contributions from Claury Scatliffe, Kim Takeuchi, Shauliqua Fahie, Bria Smith, Shakeeya Collins, and Dariér Malone. Pitcher Javlyn Frett secured the win for Synergy, giving up just two hits and four runs (two earned) over four innings, while striking out one and walking five.
The championship series continues this evening, with Power Outage facing Pirates at 6:00 p.m., followed by Synergy against Pure Problems at 8:00 p.m., as both series promise more thrilling action and high-stakes competition.
