JULIEN ALFRED WINS HISTORIC OLYMPIC GOLD FOR ST. LUCIA IN WOMEN’S 100M

Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred made history on Saturday, August 3, 2024, by winning the gold medal in the Women’s 100 metres at the Paris Olympic Games, marking the country’s first-ever Olympic medal.

Competing at the Stade de France, Alfred delivered a stunning performance, crossing the finish line in 10.72 seconds.

Alfred’s victory was a momentous occasion, as she outran a competitive field that included the United States’ Sha’Carri Richardson, who finished second, and Melissa Jefferson, who took third place. Richardson, a pre-race favourite, could not keep pace with Alfred’s explosive speed.

Alfred’s race strategy was impeccable. She had a strong start and quickly gained momentum in the second phase, establishing a lead that she maintained through the finish line. The 23-year-old’s top speed and powerful running ensured her a commanding victory by 0.15 seconds.

This historic win not only brings glory to Alfred but also places Saint Lucia on the Olympic map with its first gold medal. Alfred’s achievement is a source of immense pride for her nation and a testament to her hard work and dedication.
