National record holder Rikkoi Brathwaite has made history by advancing to the semifinals of the Men’s 100-meter event at the Paris Olympic Games in France.
Brathwaite, running in Heat 6 of Round 1 on Saturday, showcased his exceptional speed and reaction time.
With a reaction time of 0.131 seconds, the fastest in his heat, Brathwaite secured his place in the semifinals by finishing third with a time of 10.13 seconds. The heat was won by South African sprinter Akani Simbine, who clocked in at 10.03 seconds.
Brathwaite’s performance marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first Virgin Islander to advance to an Olympic Games 100-meter semifinal. His achievement is a proud moment for the British Virgin Islands and a testament to his dedication and hard work.
In the semifinals, Brathwaite will compete in the first heat, running out of lane 2. He will face tough competition, including World Champion Noah Lyles of the United States, Oblique Seville of Jamaica, and Louie Hinchliffe of Great Britain.
The semifinal race is scheduled to commence at 2:05 p.m. BVI time.
