MCMASTER FINISHES 5TH IN 400M HURDLES AT PARIS OLYMPICS

Kyron McMaster, representing the British Virgin Islands, delivered a commendable performance in the Men’s 400-metre hurdles final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this afternoon.

Competing in his second Olympic final, McMaster finished in 5th place with a season’s best time of 47.79 seconds.

Starting from lane 6, McMaster faced a highly competitive field, which included some of the world’s top hurdlers. Despite the pressure, he managed to maintain his composure throughout the race, showing the same resilience and determination that has characterized his career.

The race was won by American Rai Benjamin, who crossed the finish line with a season’s best time of 46.46 seconds. Benjamin’s victory was a highlight of the day, as he demonstrated exceptional speed and technique to secure the gold medal.

Norwegian sensation and reigning world champion Karsten Warholm, who entered the race as the favourite, had to settle for silver with a time of 47.06 seconds. Warholm, known for his explosive starts and strong finishes, couldn’t match Benjamin’s pace in the final stretch.

Alison dos Santos of Brazil claimed the bronze medal, finishing behind Warholm with a time of 47.26 seconds. Dos Santos, who has been a consistent performer on the international stage, once again showcased his elite skills in this tightly contested final.

McMaster’s 5th place finish, while not enough for a podium spot, is a significant achievement for the British Virgin Islands athlete. His season’s best time of 47.79 seconds reflects his continuous improvement and ability to compete among the world’s best.
