VG UNITED SECURES DOUBLE CUP GLORY WITH A GRITTY 2-0 VICTORY OVER WOLUES FC

Virgin Gorda United capped off a stellar season with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Wolues FC on Sunday, August 11, to clinch the President’s Cup.

This triumph adds to their FA Cup win over the same opposition just a month earlier, making it a double cup celebration for the team from Virgin Gorda.

The match at the East End Football Stadium was a tense affair, with the VG United squad facing off against the league champions, who were also the reigning President’s Cup holders. However, VG United struck first, taking the lead in the 14th minute when Shamar Ollivierre capitalized on a loose ball after a corner kick. Reacting faster than the Wolues defense, Ollivierre forced the ball over the line from close range, sending the traveling fans into a frenzy.

Wolues FC, determined not to let the trophy slip from their grasp without a fight, ramped up the pressure and created a golden opportunity to equalize before halftime. Captain Phil Nelson stepped up to take a penalty, but his effort was expertly saved, leaving Wolues trailing and the VG fans in full voice.

The decisive moment came in the 58th minute when another set piece proved to be Wolues’ undoing. A scramble in the box led to an own goal, sealing the fate of the match and securing the cup for Virgin Gorda United.
