ADAEJAH ADVANCES TO 100M FINAL AT WORLD ATHLETICS U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS

The British Virgin Islands’ Adaejah Hodge has secured her spot in the finals of the women’s 100-metre event at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

Competing in Heat 3 of the semifinals on Tuesday, Hodge finished second with a time of 11.59 seconds, automatically qualifying for the final. The heat was won by Germany’s Chelsea Kadiri, who clocked 11.52 seconds.

Despite her qualification, Hodge’s heat produced the slowest times among the three semifinal heats, with Heat 1 setting the pace. In that heat, Barbadian Kishawna Niles and Great Britain’s Nia Wedderburn-Goodison both posted a time of 11.39 seconds in a photo finish.

Hodge had previously outpaced Niles in the preliminary rounds, winning Heat 1 with a time of 11.45 seconds, compared to Niles’ 11.63 seconds.

The highly anticipated final is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, at 7:30 p.m. BVI time. In addition to her 100-metre campaign, Hodge will also compete in the women’s 200-metre event on Thursday, August 29, at 11:15 a.m. BVI time, where she hopes to deliver another standout performance.
