VG UNITED CLIMBS TO TOP OF NATIONAL LEAGUE WITH COMMANDING 8-0 VICTORY

Virgin Gorda United (VG United) surged to the top of the National League standings on Sunday, October 27, with a powerful 8-0 win over Avengers FC at Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground.

The victory, VG United’s second consecutive win, gives them a slight edge over Lion Heart FC, based on goal difference.

VG United dominated from the outset, putting up four goals before halftime. Jaadon Quashie opened the scoring, followed by a double from Jadon Abrams and another goal from Ikyjah Williams. The relentless attack continued in the second half as Kijuan Nimblett, Shamar Ollivierre, Joel Mars, and an Avengers own goal added to the tally.

VG United manager, Jermain Abrams, praised his team’s performance but emphasized areas for improvement. “It was a good game, but there are things we need to work on to become an elite team. Our keeper, KJ, did an excellent job on his debut, keeping a clean sheet, and the defence held up well,” Abrams commented, also acknowledging the coaching staff’s efforts.

Lion Heart FC sits just behind VG United in the standings, maintaining an unbeaten streak with a 3-1 win over One Love FC. Tyrone Buddah led the charge, netting twice to secure the victory after Travalata Francis equalized for One Love. Justic Browne’s late goal added assurance. Manager Winston Brown noted the positive shift in the team’s attitude under new coach Leroy Henry, saying, “The coach set a strategic plan, and the team executed it perfectly.”

Wolues FC, last season’s champions, also remain undefeated, taking third place after a thrilling 4-3 win over Sugar Boys FC. Leo Forte scored early for Wolues, but Sugar Boys responded with two goals from Kerron Monro and Andres Bailey. The game swung back and forth in the second half, with an equalizer from Hugo Costa Liziario, an own goal by each team, and a dramatic late winner by Forte. Reflecting on the game, Wolues’ Nelson noted the team’s resilience: “In the second half, we played with much better desire and quality. It was a tough game on a challenging pitch, but we’re delighted with the three points.”

In other weekend action, Panthers FC and Positive FC fought to a 2-2 draw. Panthers led late into the game, but Positive FC equalized through a last-minute penalty by Mathurin Rosier. Panthers’ assistant coach Rolando Codner expressed disappointment, citing missed opportunities and defensive errors that cost them the win.

Islanders FC closed out the weekend with a comfortable 5-0 win over Rebels FC, with goals from Rogel Noel, Carlos Septus, and Antonio Rodney, plus an own goal, securing three points for the team.
