The British Virgin Islands Cricket Association (BVICA) has inaugurated its first-ever Umpire Certification Program, enrolling 20 participants in an 18-month initiative aimed at raising the standards of cricket officiating in the territory.
The programme, facilitated by West Indies umpire trainer Peter Nero, began with a 3.5-hour virtual session attended by 15 participants.
Topics included umpiring fundamentals, essential equipment, and the role of umpires. Nero’s extensive expertise ensures top-tier training for attendees.
BVICA Vice President Richard Francis highlighted the programme as a transformative step, equipping local officials for regional and international opportunities. “Umpires are the backbone of the game,” Francis said, emphasizing professionalism and integrity as key elements of cricket’s development in the territory.
The initiative reflects BVICA’s commitment to fostering growth in cricket through comprehensive training for players, officials, and the broader community.
