The British Virgin Islands (BVI) Under-17 men’s football team made a powerful statement in their opening match at the 2025 CONCACAF Men’s Under-17 Qualifiers, securing a commanding 4-0 victory over Sint Maarten on Friday.
Playing in Group B at Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica, BVI displayed confidence and attacking prowess, setting the tone for their tournament campaign.
A Clinical Performance
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute, when Sam Sharma capitalized on a BVI corner kick, firing home a half-volley strike to put his team ahead. The momentum carried into the second half, with Latriel Williams doubling the lead in the 62nd minute, making the most of an opportunity inside the six-yard box.
Luca Stuttard then took centre stage, delivering a brilliant brace in the 69th and 73rd minutes to seal the three-point start for BVI. His first goal was a stunning left-footed strike from outside the box, easily one of the standout goals of the day.
Next Challenge: Trinidad and Tobago
With confidence high after their opening win, BVI now shifts focus to a tough matchup against Trinidad and Tobago on February 9, followed by games against host nation Costa Rica on February 11 and Guyana on February 16.
The winner of Group B will secure a spot in the 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, making every match crucial for BVI’s dreams of advancing on the international stage.
