Premier Hon. Dr. Natalio Wheatley, has updated on the progress of plans to eliminate visa restrictions for Guyanese nationals entering the territory.
In a recent interview with Guyana’s National Communications Network (NCN), the Premier expressed his support for the measure, which was initially announced by Deputy Premier Hon. Lorna Smith OBE during a 2023 trade mission to Guyana.
The Premier revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is currently being drafted between the governments of the British Virgin Islands and Guyana. This MOU will formalize the visa waiver and outline the terms and conditions of the new arrangement.
Premier Wheatley described the existing visa requirement as a barrier to the BVI-Guyana relationship.
The absence of the visa requirement is expected to facilitate greater movement of people between the two nations, fostering deeper economic and cultural ties. Wheatley highlighted the importance of this move in aligning with CARICOM’s vision for stronger regional integration.
