20% CHANCE OF TROPICAL FORMATION OVER NEXT WEEK

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami is monitoring an area in the central Tropical Atlantic for possible development later this week.

In a tropical weather outlook issued Tuesday morning, forecasters noted that an area of low pressure could form in the coming days. Environmental conditions in the region appear generally favorable for the slow development of this system over the weekend and into early next week.

The potential system is expected to move westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph. However, the NHC emphasizes that the chances of formation remain low at this time.

The outlook provides the following probabilities for tropical cyclone formation:

– Through 48 hours: near 0 percent

– Through 7 days: 20 percent

While the immediate threat is minimal, this development serves as a reminder that the Atlantic hurricane season is approaching its typical peak period, which runs from mid-August to late October.
